Between 1962 and 1966, the UARAF received a total of 24 second-hand Tu-16 bombers. Six were Tu-16KS, equipped with KSR-1 radar-guided anti-ship missiles; 23 were still available as of 5 June 1967. The fleet was operated by three units of Air Group 65 home-based at Cairo West. All were left in silver grey overall and wore the usual set of national markings. Bombers (like the example shown inset) had serial numbers in the range 4000–4099, the last two of which were usually based on their Soviet bort numbers, left in place as applied by their former owners. Missile-carrying Tu-16KS, as shown in the main artwork, received serials in the range 4101–4199. KSR-1 missiles were usually painted in light admiralty grey overall (BS381C/697). All but six bombers were destroyed by Mirages in the first minutes of Operation Focus on 5 June 1967. (Artworks by Tom Cooper)
