The Avro 691 Lancastrian was the civilian version of the hugely successful Second World War Lancaster bomber. The gun turrets were replaced with aerodynamic fairings and tanks were installed inside the fuselage for bulk transport of liquid fuel. It could transport 1,500 gallons (6,819 litres) of wet fuel, which was the equivalent of about 7 tons. The Lancastrian was operated by Flight Refuelling Ltd and Skyways Ltd.
