Developed in Spain through a significant re-design of the Lohner Pfeilflieger, Barrón Flechas – designed by Captain Barrón – were manufactured in 1915 and 1916. Starting from 1917, up to 18 were deployed to Spanish Morocco to replace worn-out MF.11s, Lohners, and Nieuports. About 12 of them had the excellent Spanish Hispano-Suiza 8A engine, the first ever with a water-cooled V8 cylinder disposition and one of the best engines of the First World War (some 48,000 of 250Kw the 8F variant were built).
