At least four Nieuport IVG/VIMs were deployed to Tetuán in 1913, being then moved to Zeluán, Melilla, in 1914. This sample made the first crossing of the Gibraltar Strait, flown by captains Herrera and Ortiz Echagüe, on 14 Feb 1914, hence probably the first flight linking two continents. They wore no markings initially, but during the First World War, the Spanish flag was applied on the fin. Specifications: 120 km/h; power to weight ratio 0.08 (37.5 Kw engine, 490 Kg loaded weight); ceiling 2,500m. (Artwork by Tom Cooper)
