One of 19 F−5As (and 3 F−5Bs) that entered service with the 6th Fighter Squadron of the 5th Fighter Wing, beginning in 1966, shown as most of the fleet appeared through the 1970s, when they were camouflaged in colours used for the USAF’s standardized ‘South−East Asia’ camouflage pattern. The PhAF F−5s could be armed with typical weapons for this type, ranging from AIM−9B Sidewinders and Mk.82 bombs, to LAU−7H pods for unguided rockets. They saw their last action in the Year 2000, while conducting air strikes against Camp Abubakar with Mk.82 and M117 bombs. After their withdrawal from service, all radios, gun−sights, and cannons have been stripped off of derelict F−5s and installed on other aircraft. Insets are showing crests of the 5th Fighter Wing and the 6th Fighter Squadron. (Artwork by Tom Cooper)
