Due to lack of pilots and crews qualified to fly them, only 12 out of 45 Il-28s acquired by Egypt in late 1955 and through 1956 were operational with Nos. 8 and 9 Squadrons during the Suez War. All were left in ‘natural metal overall’ - i.e. painted in similar fashion like MiG-15s and MiG-17s - and wore national markings in six positions, as well as fin flashes. Notable was that roundels applied on these 12 Il-28s used by the EAF during the Suez War 1956 were positioned below the fin, instead further towards the front, like on aircraft that became operational after that war.
