Up to 20 of Fiat G.55s and G.55Bs still in service as of 1952, were subsequently re-assigned to the Fighter Conversion Unit of the Air Force College. Some were apparently in service as of 1956, but flew no combat sorties. As far as is known, by that time all were in bare metal finish and received ‘trainer yellow’ bands around the rear fuselage - both of which generally showed heavy traces of wear and tear. Black serials were applied on the fuselage band, and some had the last two of the same applied on the lower wing surfaces. (Artwork by Tom Cooper)
