The MT-LB was a multi-purpose tracked vehicle that was developed as a lightly armoured version of the MT-L artillery tractor. It had a small turret at the front right, fitted with a PKT 7.62mm calibre machine gun. This MT-LB of the 180th MRR carries a 2S9B Vasilek 82mm calibre gun-mortar on its rear deck. Capable of direct or indirect fire, the Vasilek was loaded with clips of ammunition and could fire at up to 100 rounds per minute, significantly bolstering the firepower of the unit.
