The ATAIU-SEA obtained an unknown number of Mitsubishi A6M ‘Zero’ fighters. Most were A6M2s of the 381st Kokutai, captured in Malaya. They were of particular interest for their ability to outmanoeuvre virtually any fighter in Allied service and were flight-tested at Tebrau AB through late 1945 and early 1946. Following the disbandment of the ATAIU, they served as the back bone of the so-called Gremlin Task Force, before an unknown number – at least one – perhaps up to three – ended up in the French service.
