Portugal purchased 50 Panhard EBR 75 (Engin Blindé de Reconnaissance) armoured cars from France in 1959. Each of these vehicles possessed a 75mm cannon as well as three 7.5mm machine guns. Twenty-one were deployed to Angola (Luanda and Silva Porto where this example served with Dragoes de Angola), while the rest were stationed in mainland Portugal with Army cavalry units. During the April 1974 revolution, the Cavalry Practical School from Santarém sent three of these vehicles to Lisbon, where they were used in city centre operations and the siege of the Carmo barracks.
