T30 HMC (heavy motor carriage). It is unclear how many T30 HMCs were used in Indochina and precisely, by which armoured unit. What is known is that the T30 was developed by the White Motor Company headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio in 1941. Used as a stopgap by US forces until other AVs became available (hence the reason the vehicle never received an ‘M’ number), the T30 resembled the White Company’s own M3 half-track. One major difference was that the T30 was designed to be a howitzer vehicle and therefore, had a much higher elevation than the M3. The T30’s gun was mounted behind the cab. Only 500 T30s were ever produced and soon after its introduction into US service in 1942, it was already being replaced by the M8 Scott HMC. (Artwork by David Bocquelet)
