This Nieuport Nid-72 fighter (original serial was K-423) was flown by a defector to the Paulistas on 20 August 1932. Originally painted in olive green overall, it received white stripes on the nose, the rear fuselage, and around the upper wing. The Ni- 72 could reach speeds of up to 260km/h and had a manoeuvre ratio of 0.3 (with an engine output of 447Kw, and weighing 1,471kg fully loaded). Its principal advantage was its high maximum ceiling of 8,200m; however, at 400km, it was quite short ranged. Armament consisted of two 7.7mm Vickers machine guns firing forward.
