| 9M21 rocket |
Iraq acquired only eight 9P113 TELs of the 9K52 Luna-9M/FROG-7 system and 9M21 rockets, but they played their role in the development of derivative weapons, foremost the Laith-90 rocket: an extended range 9M21 deployed in numbers during the wars of 1991 and 2003. Early during their service in Iraq, 9P113s were painted in sand overall, and had wide splotches of blue-green, as used on most Iraqi Army vehicles of the late 1970s and early 1980s. By 1991, most were repainted in a darker sand colour with a strong touch of grey. This colour was retained until 2003, by when the SSMD and Brigade 225 was operationally subordinated to the Republican Guards and all had a small red triangle on the doors of the driver’s cab.
