Only 188 JVBT-55 armoured crane vehicles (known as BTS-3 Medium Armoured Tractor to the Soviets) were manufactured for export, but Iraq acquired over 120 of them. At least one was assigned to the maintenance section of each armoured battalion, and they saw heavy utilisation in the October 1973 Arab-Israeli War, the Second Iraqi-Kurdish War of 1974–1975, and especially the Iran-Iraq War of 1980–1988. This vehicle is shown wearing the typical camouflage pattern of wide vertical stripes of blue-green atop of its original dark yellow sand colour, as widespread in the Iraqi Army of the late 1970s and early 1980s.
