The backbone of the IAF’s ‘heavy’ transport fleet was a squadron of French Nord Noratlas twins like this example from 103 Squadron. These were suitable for airdrop and performing flights to the continent to bring back war materiel. While awaiting long-range, heavy strike Phantom fighter-bombers, the Nords were used as ersatz bombers with explosives rolled out the back.
