In reequipping the Egyptian air force, the USSR delivered some of the aircraft being supplied to its Warsaw Pact allies. These included MiG-21PF jets like the one depicted. While it had an improved radar and engine, the cannon had been removed to rely solely on the deficient R-3S, a copy of the American AIM-9B air-to-air missile. The MiG-21 became the sole interceptor in the UARAF, the MiG-17Fs devoted to strike missions and the MiG-19s so problem plagued as to be virtually worthless. (Artwork by Tom Cooper)
