Israel had long been procuring vintage M-3 halftracks as a poor man’s armoured personnel carrier. The IDF upgraded these and kept them in service even following the Six-Day War by which time they were becoming seriously obsolete. With tankers in ascendance within the IDF, the mobile infantry was starved for funds and the replacement was M-113 was only very slowly entering service. The halftrack also served as the basis for a large number of specialised vehicles. (Artwork by David Bocquelet)
