The MAN 630 was a five-ton lorry made by the Maschinenfabrik Augsburg Nürnberg (MAN) from 1953 to 1972: the L2 was the military version, with a switchable front-wheel-drive, and by far the most widely available. El Salvador purchased several dozen and the FAES used them as its standard truck throughout the 1980s. The 630L2 was 7.9 metres long, weighed 7,980kg when empty, powered by a MAN D1246 diesel engine of 96kW and could carry a load of up to 5,000kg. (Artwork by David Bocquelet)
