In the early 1990s, several of FAC AC-47s underwent conversion to the Basler BT-67 standard, which included re-engining to modern turbines and installation of new wings to stretch their operational life. One of the Salvadorean examples to receive such modifications was the ‘Fantasma’ with serial number 116: former C-47B-35-DK, construction number 16534, US Air Force serial 44-76950. It was delivered to El Salvador on 31 August 1990 and promptly entered service with the Escuadrón de Transporte, FAS, as a gunship armed with the usual three Browning M2 machine guns calibre 12.7mm.
