One of oldest aircraft of the 1980s operated by the FAS during the war in El Salvador, was this Douglas C-47A-1DK Dakota (colloquially known as ‘Fantasma’ within the FAS personnel). Its original construction number was 11867 and US Air Force serial 42-92104. El Salvador received it in September 1967 and it served with the Escuadrón de Transporte, FAS, throughout its career. It is shown as around 1989, in a disruptive camouflage pattern of tan and olive drab on top surfaces and sides and (quite worn out) light aircraft grey on undersides. Other insignia was limited to the serial number 106 on the fin. (Artwork by Luca Canossa)
