On 17 August 1964, six RF-84F Thunderflashes of the 348th Mira were sent into the (first officially confirmed) reconnaissance operation over Cyprus (an earlier mission, flown in May, remains unconfirmed until today) and thus, became some of very few RHAF aircraft that ever actually operated over the island. This reconstruction is based on information provided by the formation leader, Efthimios Roulias; it is shown the RF-84F with the US FYserial number 53-8740 as during that sortie. The jet was left in bare metal overall but had an anti-glare panel in dark green along the top of the forward fuselage and the top of its intakes typically painted in dark red and black. According to Roulias, it wore roundels in six positions on 17 August 1964, but no fin flashes; some of 348th Miras actually had all their national insignias removed during the time.
