Marmon-Herrington of South Africa, manufactured thousands of armoured cars based on commercial chassis during the Second World War. About 40 of the Marmon-Herrington Mk IVF cars were inherited by the Greek Cypriots (together with four Shorlands and two Daimler Dingos) and pressed into service by the CNG. Several were knocked out by fire of TMT’s recoilless rifles and then by THK air strikes during the attack on the Kokkina area, in August 1964. As far as is known, at the time, all were painted in dark green overall (later replaced by a lighter shade) and wore small white crosses on blue quadrants, applied on the turret sides for identification purposes.
