The wave of defections that followed the fall of the Somoza regime, and the poor economic situation reduced the fleet of aircraft taken over by the FAS to a bare minimum. Only three Cessna 337s are known to have been available as of the 1979-1981 period: the number seemingly decreased to two (serial numbers 152 and 153) for most of the Contra War. The few available photographs from the 1980s show them wearing a disruptive camouflage pattern in tan (or light green) and dark green as shown here, and armed with US- or French-made pods for 68mm unguided rockets. This example is shown with original FAS insignia applied on the fin: from around 1981, at least by 1984, this was replaced by the Nicaraguan tricolore. (Artwork by Tom Cooper)
