Operated by No. 4 Squadron, the Cessna F/FB.337G – or ‘Lynx’ in local parlance – was the workhorse of the Rhodesian War. By 1977, all wore a matt finish in dark earth and dark green. While lacking national insignia, they retained serials applied on fins. Over time the type was adapted to carry a wide range of armament: two 7.62mm machine guns were installed above the wing roots, while four underwing pylons usually carried a mix of bombs and rocket pods. This example (serial number 3044) is shown as armed with US-made LAU-3 pods, for six 68mm rockets, the front part of which was covered with locally-manufactured aerodynamic cover made of plastic.
