Lockheed F-104J Starfighter 76- 8688/688, Japanese Air Self Defence Force, 7 Kokudan (wing) / 207 Hikotai (squadron), Naha Air Base, 1986. Dubbed the ‘Eiko’ (‘Glory’), the JASDF operated 210 F-104Js in the air- superiority role between October 1962 to 1986 — including 76-8688/688, seen here. One of |78 examples licence built by Mitsubishi, ‘688’ was delivered to the JASDF on April 28, 1967. It was ultimately accepted by the 7th Kokudan / 207th Hikotai at Naha on November 7, 1984. Withdrawn from use two years later, it survives today on the gate at Naha — albeit with the rear fuselage and tail from 76-8683, which was last noted there during the early 2000s
