Lockheed L-049 Constellation

L-049 Constellation Clipper Challenge was delivered to Pan Am on 12 January 1946 as an L-049, and was later converted to an L-149 with the additional outer wing fuel tanks of the L-749. It left the Pan Am fleet in January 1954 for Panair do Brasil, was re-registered PP-PDG, and renamed Joao Amaro Maciel Parente. /t served with them until 1965, when it was withdrawn an stored at Rio de Janeiro-Galedo Airport. In April 1969 it was bought by ASL Arruda Industria, a short-lived Brazilian operator. On 29 May 1972 it suffered failure of two engines after take-off from Cruzeiro do Sul in far western Brazil and crashed while trying to return to the airport.
