A reconstruction of the first of five DH.60M Gipsy Moths acquired by the RIrAF in 1931. Painted in silver dope overall, the aircraft received the full Iraqi insignia, including classic ‘triangles’ on the fuselage, and all four national colours on the fin. While not armed originally, Iraqi ground crews adapted four of them to carry bomb shackles for four 10kg (20lb) bombs. Notable is the oversized serial number ‘1’: probably as a matter of pride and prestige, this was applied in a much larger size and greater thickness than the numbers on the other four DH.60Ms or the subsequent nine DH.60Ts and DH.83s acquired by the RIrAF by 1934.
