A Nakajima Ki-27 of the 24th Sentai. This lightweight fighter was supreme for the first half of the conflict but suffered increasing losses as experienced Soviet pilots with more advanced versions of the I-16 arrived at the front. By the end of the conflict 62 had been shot down with another 34 written off – most often with tragic consequences for their pilots. (Artwork by Luca Canossa)
