Based on the chassis of the PT-76 amphibious tank, the BTR-50 was an APC with a crew of two, and was primarily assigned to the Motorised Rifle troops of the tank formations of the Soviet Army in the 1960s. Standard armament included one 7.62mm machine gun, but there were many variants and some had as many as three machine guns. A variation of the type was manufactured in Czechoslovakia as the OT-62. Like all other combat vehicles of the WTO during Operation Danube, all were painted in dark olive green overall, and wore vertical identification stripes in white, along with other tactical insignia.
