Panther Ausf A, 1./SS-Panzer-Regiment “Totenkopf,” 3.SS-Panzer-Division “Totenkopf,” Romania, July 1944. This Panther follows the usual German tactical numbering practice with the first digit of the tactical number indicating the company, the second indicating the platoon, and the third indicating the tank number, in this case, the platoon leader. As shown in the inset views (1a), there was a small Totenkopf insignia above and to the right of the glacis plate machine-gun station, and a white triangle on the turret rear escape hatch. This tank is painted in the usual RAL 7028 dark yellow, with patches of RAL 6003 olive green and RAL 8017 red brown.
