Sopwith F.1 Camel B7406, fl own by Flight Lieutenant Herbert Gilles Watson DFC of C Flight No.4 Squadron Australian Flying Corps (AFC). Based on the Western Front in March 1918, he was credited with 14 victories, which consisted of a mixture of aeroplanes and balloons. Flt Lt Watson was the highest scoring New Zealandborn ace in the AFC and the fourth highest scorer in his squadron. Other known mounts fl own by him were Camels D8116, D9422, D8159 and C8300. This aircraft was powered by a Clerget engine. The aircraft livery featured PC12 on the fuselage and upper wing surfaces with Clear Doped Linen on the under wing surfaces. Boomerang markings were applied to both sides and top of the fuselage and the upper wing and both sides of the fuselage carried the letter ‘W’. The tail fi n code B7406 here is Black with a White outline and the aircraft is seen carrying four 20lb Cooper Bombs
