TBD-1 Devastator, BuNo. 0370, flown by Lieutenant Commander Eugene E. Lindsey, commanding officer of Torpedo Squadron SIX, when he led his squadron from USS ENTERPRISE to attack Japanese carriers reported to be south of Oahu. This TBD-1 was lost in an operational accident while attempting to land aboard ENTERPRISE on May 28, 1942, but Lt. Cdr. Lindsey and his crew were rescued by the destroyer MONAGHAN, DD-354, and returned to ENTERPRISE. A few days later, Lt. Cdr. Lindsey was killed while leading his squadron against the Japanese carrier force during the Battle of Midway.
