With the high cost of American warplanes, the Israelis modi ed their Super Mystère B.2s with the J52 engine from the Skyhawk. Although non-afterburning, the thrust and e ciency of the powerplant was far superior to the displaced French powerplant. Named Sa’ar (Storm), these could also carry more air-to-ground ordnance and were equipped with Shafrir missiles for self-defence, as seen here. The two-dozen aircraft were operated by 105 Squadron.
