15CM SCHWERE INFANTERIEGESCHÜTZE 33 WITH STIELGRANATE 42
Besides using conventional ammunition, the 15cm sIG 33 could employ a specialized demolition projectile, the Stielgranate 42. The projectile was mounted externally on the bore end of the gun and propelled by a charge inside the tube. Although this unusual design resembled specialized anti-tank rounds developed for other guns, it was in fact intended for blowing gaps in barbedwire defenses or for use against concrete defenses. It offered more than double the firepower of the conventional high-explosive round: 90kg vs. 38kg, but less than quarter the range, 1km vs. 4.7km.
