TOWING THE INFANTRY GUNS
The standard prime mover for the 7.5cm Infanteriegeschütz 18 was the Kfz. 12 mittelschwerer geländegängiger Personenkraftwagen, manufactured by Auto Union’s Horch factory in Zwickau. The more substantial 15cm schwere Infanteriegeschütz 33 was towed by a Sd.Kfz. 10 1-tonne halftrack. This vehicle was not entirely suitable for such a heavy weapon under muddy conditions, and other vehicles such as the heavier 3-tonne Sd.Kfz. 11 half-track were sometimes used as a substitute. Both vehicles are shown here in an over dark gray finish, typical for equipment manufactured in 1939–43.
