With the start of the Yaqui rebellion, and because the number of surviving DH.4Bs was reduced, the Military Aviation Service – with the help of General Abelardo L. Rodriguez – placed an order with Douglas for the O-2M model. Reportedly, four O-2Ms were used against the Yaqui Indians and had the names PIMA, YAQUI, PUMA and MAYO painted in white or light yellow on their sides. One was lost in operations.
