South Yemen was one of the major export customers for several variants of the Su-22-series. The first to arrive were 12 Su-22s, all of which appear to have been camouflaged in dark brown (BS381C/411 or 450, similar to F20095) and olive green (BS381C/298, similar to FS34098) on top surfaces and sides, applied in a pattern that differed from aircraft to aircraft. Undersurfaces were painted in light admiralty grey (BS381C/697 or FS35622). All aircraft also had an ‘anti-glare panel’ applied in grey in front of the cockpit, as well as large ‘bort numbers’ (29 in this case) applied in red. As far as is known, they received no roundels. This example is illustrated armed with four FAB-500M-62 general-purpose bombs and carrying RTB-1150 drop tanks, with a capacity of 1,150 litre. (Artwork by Tom Cooper)
