The Martin B-26 Marauder was an American medium bomber. It was introduced into service in 1941 and quickly received the reputation of being a “widow maker” due to the early models’ high accident rate during take-offs and landings. The model B-26A shown here belonged to the 11th Air Force. During Operation AL, the B-26s tried to counterattack the 2nd Kidō Kutai, and the group led by Captain George W. Thornbrough caught the Ryūjō off guard, but the bombing run was unsuccessful. (Artwork by Jean-Marie Guillou)
