With 35 aircraft available, No. 105 or “Scorpion” Squadron was the largest IDF/AF unit as of 5 June 1967: all of its assets were hurled into action during the first wave, striking some of the most important targets. The fact that this was no easy task – but also what could have happened had Israeli air strikes been only a notch less effective – was proved by the drama that developed when a flight of four SMB.2s attacked Kabrit AB, around 08.45hrs. This illustration is a reconstruction of the leading jet in that formation, piloted by Alex Armon. His flight successfully bombed the runway and began strafing targets on the ground when a lonesome Il-14 transport appeared on the scene and Armon’s Number 2 – Yacov Nevo, earlier CO of No. 105 Squadron, and about to assume command of Hatzor AB – drew away everybody’s attention in that direction.
