LVT(A)4, Co. A, 776th Amphibious Tank Battalion, Ormoc Bay, Leyte. Amtracs and amtanks were contracted by the US Navy and originally appeared in Ocean Gray 5-0, a blue-gray color. Complaints by army troops about the unsuitability of this color once the vehicle reached the shore led the army to issue Technical Bulletin ORD 102 on May 30, 1944 that authorized the repainting in standard lusterless olive drab as seen here. Markings on US Army amtanks tended to be very simple, in this case limited to a white star on the turret side.
