MD−520 light attack helicopters are operated by the 15th Strike Wing. They are usually armed with seven−round LAU−7H rocket pods and 12.7mm machine guns – one of which is often carried on each side of the helicopter (as shown here). PhAF MD−520s maintain a near permanent presence during AFP−operations, despite the small size of the fleet. In combat, they are usually teamed with OV−10As to provide close air support, or fly escort for UH−1Hs. (Artwork by Ugo Crisponi)
