Developed in Spain as an improved version of the Lohner, the Barrón W – designed by Captain Barrón – were manufactured in 1917. Up to six were sent to Tetuán in May 1919 but retired before the end of the year. This type was specifically designed to use the excellent Spanish Hispano-Suiza V8 engine and had the wing shape amended to improve the visibility of the observer. Specifications: 150 km/h; power to weight ratio 0.09 (105Kw engine, 1,150 Kg loaded weight); ceiling 4,750m. (Artwork by Tom Cooper)
