The first Syrian military aircraft were four Percival Proctor Mk Vs, four-seat civilian versions of the type known in the RAF as the Proctor C.Mk 5. Officially operated by the Syrian ‘Government Flight’, they were soon found too heavy and complex to be used as primary trainers and as the Syrian Arab Air Force had yet to come into official existence, were given civilian serials SRA1, SRA2, SRA3 and SRA4, applied in black on the rear fuselage and on top of the wing (SR on the left wing and A1/A2/A3/A4 on the right). Syrian roundels were applied on wing undersurfaces, and the national coat of arms was applied on the rear fuselage and wing undersurfaces while a large Syrian flag was applied across the tail fin and rudder, (Artwork by Peter Penev)
