In February 1974, Portugal ordered 28 C-212 Aviocar transport aircraft from the Spanish company CASA. The order was later reduced to 24 aircraft, but the war had ended by the time the first Aviocar arrived in Portugal in October 1974. The Aviocars were initially assigned to Esquadra 32 at Air Base No. 3 (BA3) in Tancos, a former Noratlas unit given the mission of adapting Portuguese crews to the new aircraft. This Aviocar had an antiradiation olive-green paint scheme, but from the 1980s onwards they were given a camouflage of brown and two shades of green. (Artwork by Luca Canossa)
