Another landing craft used by Dinassaut forces was the Landing Craft Infantry (LCI). This type of craft was often used to supplement the smaller LCAs and LCVPs, as a way of getting more troops ashore before a bridgehead or dock could be built or captured. The 18 LCIs used by French forces between 1946 and 1954, were designed to carry up to 200 men and were typically armed with four or five Oerlikon 20mm cannons mounted inside a round gun tub.
