An LRSV-232 launcher of the M-87 Orkan/Ababil-50 multiple rocket launch system, jointly developed by Yugoslavia and Iraq in the mid- 1980s. The primary weapons were 262mm R-262 rockets with a range of 50km. The launcher was 9m long, 2.64m wide and 3.84m tall, and weighed about 15,000kg. Much simpler than the Astros II, the system used the precise alignment of the launcher, and high-quality tubes to attain the necessary precision and range, and every launcher was equipped with its own crane for quick reloading. Each battery included four LRSV-232 launchers, four trucks carrying reloads, one command vehicle, two topographic survey vehicles, two observation vehicles and two meteorological vehicles. In addition to a single prototype, Iraq received only one battery of Ababil-50s, but because of the high quality of their ammunition and simplicity of their launchers, they played an important role in the further development of indigenous weapons systems.
