Czechoslovakia usually delivered only infantry weapons to the People’s Democratic Republic of Yemen (South Yemen). One exception was the little-known vz. 59A 82mm recoilless guns. The weapon was manufactured by Závody K. J. Vorošilova at Dubnica nad Váhom in the early 1960s, and 12 were delivered to Aden in July 1981. They saw combat deployment not only during the South Yemen Civil War (also known as the ‘Events of ‘86’), that ravaged the country’s armed forces between 13 – 24 January 1986, but especially during the Yemeni Civil War of 1994, pitting the pro-union northern states against the separatist southern Yemeni states.
