This is a reconstruction of a vz. 53/70 self-propelled anti-aircraft gun operated by Iraq since the mid-1970s. Manufactured by Závody 9. mája in Trenčín-Kubra between 1959 and 1961, where a total of 950 examples were rolled out, this vehicle originally included twin 30mm vz. 53 guns on an Praga V3S chassis with armoured body. The slightly improved vz. 53/59B – equipped with a radio station and intercom – emerged in 1970 and was manufactured for the Czechoslovak People’s Army and for export, at Škoda Plzeň. Iraq eventually acquired 92 vz. 53/70s, but little is known about their service with their army. (Artwork by David Bocquelet)
