An important expression of American support for Israel came with agreement to sell Skyhawk jets. However, the A-4Hs, first arriving in December 1967, had important equipment removed or downgraded. It was still a marked improvement in ground attack assets and they arrived during the challenging time of the War of Attrition. Aircraft 01 of 109 Squadron has the straight aerial refuelling probe and drag chute housing that characterised the model. American Mk 82 bombs with ‘Snakeye’ fins are loaded on the centreline along with wing drop tanks supporting a mission from Ramat David AB in Israel’s far north to the canal battle area and back.
