No. 3 Squadron originally operated its C-47s in white and ‘natural metal’ finish with silver-doped rudders, elevators and ailerons, and a cheatline and titles in green. By the 1970s, this was replaced by dark earth and dark green on top surfaces and sides, and dark earth on undersurfaces – with every aircraft having these applied in an entirely different pattern. All serials and national markings have been removed, and the heavy use and exposure to the elements usually resulted in a badly worn-out overall impression. (Artwork by Tom Cooper)
